Sous Chef Shares Sentiments

A Culinary Career with Purpose

As Sous Chef at CedarStone Senior Living, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear new stories, and find fresh reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day looks like in our community. My work goes beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it counts.

I chose senior living because the restaurant industry left little room for work-life balance. Transitioning to this field gave me the chance to do what I love in an environment that values both personal well-being and professional growth. My years of experience cooking in various restaurants helped me develop the skills I now bring to my role as Sous Chef with Arrow.

What I enjoy most about senior living is the uplifting environment and the constant opportunity to challenge myself. Every day brings something new—a recipe, a request, or a chance to improve. These experiences help me grow, both in and out of the kitchen.

Collaboration and Growth in the Kitchen

Each morning, I begin by checking in with my team. I make sure everyone is supported before diving into my own prep work. That simple habit sets the tone for collaboration and keeps our kitchen running smoothly.

For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, I’d say go for it. The work is rewarding and offers a healthier work-life balance compared to traditional kitchen jobs. At the same time, it still brings plenty of opportunities for creativity and growth.

To me, success means ending the day with a clean kitchen, minimal leftovers, and a positive attitude. Those small wins mean everything in a busy kitchen.

Pride in Every Plate

At day’s end, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether it’s a favorite dish, a heartfelt conversation, or a comforting moment. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
