Hudson Grande Senior Living Celebrates National Nurses Week

Category: Health & Wellness

Author: Cheryl Walker, Executive Director

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.

At Hudson Grande Senior Living Hudson, OH our Director of Wellness Cindi Kirchenbauer is a very caring and compassionate nurse. She makes time to sit with residents and families to assure any questions are answered and care needs are met. She is also an educator for the team. If the care team needs to understand how or why something needs to be done, she is there to demonstrate.

Cindi’s door is always open, and residents are welcome to talk with her at any time. Cindi has very genuine care and concern for the resident’s wellness and happiness. Cindi has great snacks in her office to pick from and always invites the residents to help themselves. They are free to call Cindi on her cell phone any time they need too.

Residents believe our nurses are wonderful too. The nursing team is very respectful and prompt. The nurses are amazing and care, according to the residents. Nurses track all medications so the residents don’t have to worry.

Our nurses have hearts as big as the community itself. Every one of them will meet the need at a moment’s notice. During the COVID-19 pandemic our Wellness Director moved into the community and stayed for seven weeks. Other nurses volunteered to work the COVID unit to assure the residents were cared for by a consistent staff. This was a very scary time, so they did this to bring comfort to the residents.

I would like to give an extra shoutout to Brittany Bell, who is our day nurse manager. She works so hard to keep the department moving along and has a beautiful smile with a very warm and fuzzy personality. Also, Tiffany Harris, our night shift nurse manager who keeps our night owls on the same page. She is very dedicated to the team and community. Tiffany has a caring and genuine love for the residents and wants only the best for them. She has a beautiful spirit and loving heart. Tiffany has been our night shift angel for five years.

In recognition of National Nurses Week, we will have a special luncheon. I will be sending handwritten notes to their homes thanking them for their gift of love and care. We will have small gifts during the week to celebrate them daily. There will be a few extra surprises along the way to let them know how appreciated they truly are.

We are so grateful for all the nurses who have given all they have to see the nation pull through COVID-19.  Nursing is a very rewarding career, but also demanding and exhausting. It is not for the faint at heart as we have all learned over the past few years. Nurses are the resting place for all humanity when broken, dying, or sick. They are the kind voice with reassuring words to lift our spirits.
